Richard L. Lindstrom, MD

A recognized leader in corneal, cataract, refractive and laser surgery, Richard L. Lindstrom, MD is currently the managing partner of Minnesota Eye Consultants and an attending surgeon at the Phillips Eye Institute and the Minnesota Eye and Laser Surgery Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dr. Lindstrom is the medical director of the Phillips Eye Institute Center for Teaching and Research, an ophthalmic research and surgical skills education facility that he conceptualized. Prior to entering private practice, he was professor of ophthalmology and the Harold G. Scheie Research Chair at the University of Minnesota. He is the associate director of the Minnesota Lions Eye Bank and the medical director of Laser Vision Centers, Inc., Midwest Surgical Services, Inc.
Dr. Lindstrom is active on multiple editorial boards and the committees of various professional societies. He is the chief medical editor for Ocular Surgery News and its associated international publications and associate editor of the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the CLAO Journal, the Journal of Corneal & Refractive Surgery and Ophthalmic Surgery. Recently awarded the lifetime achievement award from the International Society of Refractive Surgery, Dr. Lindstrom also has served as program chair, president-elect and president of the organization. He is active in the leadership of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Eye Bank Association of America, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of the American Ophthalmological Society.
Dr. Lindstrom holds 28 patents in ophthalmology, has presented at 27 named lectures in the field, and has co-edited three books on ophthalmic surgery. He has published more than 300 articles in medical journals and more than 50 book chapters. Dr. Lindstrom has received a number of awards, including the Barraguer Award and the Senior Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Pioneer in Refractive Surgery Award from Summit Technology.
After graduating magna cum laude from the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Lindstrom went on at the university to obtain both his bachelor of science and doctorate of medicine degrees. He was an intern in internal medicine at Northwestern Hospital and resident in ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota. Supported by a grant from the National Eye Institute, Dr. Lindstrom also performed two full-time research projects at the University of Minnesota. He was a fellow in various disciplines at Minnesota Hospitals, Mary Shields Eye Hospital, Dallas, Texas, and University Hospitals in Salt Lake City, Utah.
