D. Koch, MD
Douglas
D. Koch, M.D. is a professor of ophthalmology at the Cullen
Eye Institute, Baylor College of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology,
Houston, TX. He serves as the Allen, Mosbacher, and Law Chair
in Ophthalmology at that institution. In addition, Dr. Koch
is medical director of Baylor Vision, which is the refractive
surgery clinical and research group at Baylor College of Medicine.
He is an associate attending physician in the Harris County
Hospital District, a staff physician at the Houston Veteran’s
Administration Hospital and on the active staff of The Methodist
Hospital and St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, both in Houston.
An
active contributor to the ophthalmic community, Dr. Koch is
a member of many national and Texas-based professional societies
and on the editorial board of various scientific publications.
Among his national memberships are the American Society of
Cataract and Refractive Surgery, of which he is past president,
the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Ophthalmological
Society, the International Society of Refractive Keratoplasty
(Board of Directors) and the Association for Research in Vision
and Ophthalmology. Dr. Koch is the Editor of the Journal of
Cataract and Refractive Surgery and is on the editorial boards
of Ophthalmic Surgery and Lasers and Ophthalmic Practice.
Dr. Koch also has been a member of the Food and Drug Administration’s
Ophthalmic Devices Advisory Panel.
Dr.
Koch has presented at more than 18 named lectures and visiting
professorships and has published more than 100 full ophthalmic
papers. He has written chapters for or served as co-author
of 25 books, including Ophthalmology for the Family Physician,
Atlas of Ophthalmic Surgery, and Principles and Practice of
Refractive Surgery.
Dr.
Koch graduated summa cum laude with an A.B. degree from Amherst
College in Amherst, Massachusetts and received his doctorate
of medicine at Harvard Medical School. Koch was an internal
medicine intern at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in
Houston, and a resident in ophthalmology at Baylor College
of Medicine, also in Houston. He was also a fellow in Cornea
and Anterior Segment Surgery at the Moorfields Eye Hospital
in London, UK.
